Mapodaegyo(Mapo Grand Bridge) : Sightseeing places in Seoul




 The Mapodaegyo(Mapo Grand Bridge) is a 10-lane round-trip bridge that links the Yonggang-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, and Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, with a length of 1,390m and a width of 45.5m. Mapo Bridge is the fourth bridge in the Han River. The construction started in February 1968 and was completed in May 1970. It was promoted as a core project of the Han River development plan that started in 1968 and became a stepping-stone for leaping Yoido in the wasteland to ‘Manhattan in Seoul’.
 
 It was called 'Seoul Bridge' at the time of completion and changed its name to Mapo Bridge in 1984. In the 1990s, the lack of traffic on the 6th lane led to serious traffic congestion and serious deterioration. In order to solve this problem, a large-scale repair and renovation work was carried out in December 1996. The new bridge with a width of 22.75 m was completed and extended to the bridge of the 6-lane roundabout. It was opened in July 2000 and the existing bridge was demolished and re-opened in 10 lanes in October.
 
 This is where the explosion occurred as the target of the Korean movie <The Terror Live>. And on March 30, 2014 there was a film of <The Avengers: Age of Ultron>. In the movie, Captain America appears as a god who rides on the trailer of the Ultron who has started running on the Mapo Bridge.
 It is also one of the major sightseeing places during the Seoul World Fireworks Festival. And accessibility of bicycle is good. The fact that the paths are separated from each other is also significant. I recommend you take a bicycle to get there.
 
 Unfortunately, Mapo Bridge has a disgraceful record of being the number one suicide rate among major Han River bridges in Seoul. Among the many bridges over the Han River, the reason for the high rate of suicide has been the bridge connected to the Yeouido area where securities companies are located. And there are rumors that the police will be deployed in Mapo bridge at CSAT day because there are so many suicide victims.
 
 On September 26, 2012, Seoul Metropolitan Government introduced a communication-type storytelling system, which is a bridge of life, in which a sensor is installed at every place where actual suicide is occurring, so that a message of support and comfort can be shown according to the movement of pedestrians. Since then, the Hangang Bridge has been carrying out suicide prevention projects by writing down the words of famous people. If time permits, I recommend walking on Mapo Bridge! Namsan Tower : Sightseeing places in Seoul

 Namsan Tower is one of the famous landmarks of Seoul with the Han River.
