Hoesik : Dinning together with club members after work

Image
There is a process that can not be missed when you go to university and joined a club. It is a dinner with the members of the club, which is often called 'Hoesik'. It has the advantage of being able to get acquainted with people in clubs if you go to a Hoesik. However, if you frequent a Hoesik, you can spend your all money.    There is something that can not be left out of the Hoesik, it is alcohol. It often eats beer or soju, and sometimes drinks makgeolli. Depending on your taste, soju is the most common drink you can eat at a Hoesik. Soju has about 15 ~ 20% alcohol and bitter taste. Some people like this bitter taste, but there are a lot of people who do not like it. If soju is hard to eat, let's eat beer. In the past, eating beer instead of soju at a Hoesik was treated as a fool. But society has become a society that does not force such changes. This is a desirable change.    Students who have just entered the university often do not know how

How to go down at province house from Seoul

Since My parent's house is located in the province, I have to prepare thoroughly to go home. I have to decide what to go down and decide when to go down. This is because I can get the table in advance. It was a train, an car, a KTX!   1. KTX    Going home with KTX is relatively easy. I just have to go to Seoul Station and board the train with a pre-issued ticket. My house was about two and a half hours away by KTX. On the inside of the train, the air conditioner comes out in summer and the heater comes out in winter. And they sell food in trains, so if you want to eat something, you can buy it. If you look out the window of a train running at 300km/h, you can feel that you are going really fast!   2. Express Bus    Often I take the express bus down the house. However, this is not the way to recommend. The price is cheaper than the KTX, but it takes a long time to get down the car. If the road is clogged, it is terrible. My house is about 5 hours

KTX : How to book a KTX ticket online

Image
There are trains that are useful when traveling around Korea. It is 'Korea Train eXpress : KTX'. KTX is the name of high speed railway operated by KORAIL from April 1, 2004 and it is the highest class train operated by KORAIL. It has already been 10 years.  Perhaps it is fortunate that the high-speed railway is running in Korea, which is not very wide. Thanks to the high-speed rail, I can go to KTX in 2 hours and 30 minutes by bus, which takes 5 hours. The price is a bit expensive, but there is such convenience. (▲The thick line is the KTX route)  In fact, the speed of KTX is very fast. The maximum speed is 305 km / h, but most of the cases are traveling at 270 ~ 295 km / h on the high speed line. When the overall KTX operation is good, it runs at 300 ~ 305km / h. When driving more than 250km / h, the temporary speed of the moment is displayed at the upper left corner of the room monitor. It is fun and interesting if you watch. If you come to Korea,

Green Car : How to use Car sharing in Korea

Image
Do you know car sharing services? Maybe you should have heard it once. In general, car sharing means starting from the recognition that it is wasteful for purchasing a car. So a local or group to own a car to use a simple purpose vehicle, and then sharing it on a time scale basis.  However, in Korea, it started as a new car rental business by companies, and it is developed mainly in metropolitan and central cities. It is characterized by the fact that there is almost no car sharing zone in rural areas. So it was not easy to see car sharing cars in the area where I grew up. However, because I came to Seoul, I have a lot of chance to meet car sharing zones, and usually I can rent a car and use it.  Let's take a quick look at how to use it! In Korea, 'Socar' and 'Green Car' are typical services, but today I will explain 'Green Car' as an example.  First, sign up for membership in the Green car homepage or application. At this time, you must

Bad news : I hurt my ligament in my ankle!

Image
Today, I have to tell you the sad news. Last weekend, during the football I had fallen. And I rolled my body two wheels from the bottom. I fell over my ankle and fell so sick that I could not stand up for a while. I did not get my feet to get up. I realized that instinctively I was badly hurt.  In the end, I was going to one side and resting, so the game was finished that day. But after the game, my left ankle was so sick that I could not walk properly. But I had to go to home, so I just drove around and came back and showered. It was not even an automatic transmission, it was a manual transmission! (Actually, I thought 'I had to go home', so I did not even know my foot was sick.    After shower, I looked at my ankle and it was swollen much. Both ankle's thickness was different. So at the pharmacy, I took steps to buy pain relief patch and bandages. The pain of ankle seemed to sink a little. After dinner, It started to get a bruise in my ankle. There was

The Reserve army(Reserve forces) in Korea

Today, I went to reserve army training. The reserve army is an army that exists as a reserve. It does not live as a soldier for 24 hours like active duty. It is a living being as a member of society and a soldier when it is needed. Of course, if you live as a member of society, you can forget the military experience and sense that you have naturally accumulated, so you have to get some level of military training for a fixed period of time to maintain your ability.  However, the regular reserves are to be trained in military units for two nights and three days. But, because I am a student, I am classified as a "student reserve group" and only need to be trained for eight hours. In other words, I can get in and out in a day. Once a year, it ends when basic training is given at the training site designated by the school. So I was able to finish it very simply :)  The reserve army is also an army, so it is forbidden to take pictures of military security. So unfortunatel

South Korea President Moon : The result of 'Rose presidential election' in Korea

Image
Last time, I wrote about the Rose Election( [Seoul story] #8. 'Rose presidential election' in Korea ). And today, the election results came out. Moon Jae-in, 19th President of Korea elected ... Successful regime change. (▲Moon Jae-in, who is expected in 'Time' became president.)  Moon Jae-in In addition, the Democratic presidential candidate was elected as the 19th president of the Republic of Korea on September 9. After nine years and two months, the government succeeded in replacing the regime with progress. With 89.97 percent of the vote counted at 2:54 am on the 10th, Moon won the first place with 40.41 percent. As a result, Moon won the first place regardless of the remaining votes. Hong Joon-pyo, the free candidate for the Republic of Korea, won second place with 24.92%. The gap with the Moon's electorate is likely to increase further. Ahn Cheol-soo is the third most popular candidate with 21.48 percent, Yoo Seung-min is the fourth with 6.64 p

Parents' Day(Mother's Day) in Korea

Image
Yesterday was Parents' Day. It means to look back on your parents' suffering at least once. It was designated as May 8 in the Republic of Korea. As in the United States, Mother's Day (the second Sunday of May), there is a Parents' Day in Korea. Carnation is the icon of Parents ' Day.  So it is carnation or carnation-like accessory that often appears as a gift. It is classical. But funny, It was stay at the bottom of the list of gifts many parents want to receive. Of course, carnation gifts are not worthless. Just giving a symbolic flower for the anniversary can give a feeling of a little cliche or a mandatory feeling in the present generation.  As I said before, there are many parents who love cash than carnation. So of course, It can not help but conclude that it is more reasonable for workers to pay cash than carnations. But, this is what adults give to middle-aged parents, and it does not mean that the student should give cash to his mom and dad

Fine Dust of Korea

Image
When I was a child, when I was in high school in the province (around 2012), the word 'fine dust' was not known. There was only a 'yellow dust' that often comes from China in the spring. So at that time, the yellow color of sky was mean that there was the 'yellow dust' was heavy. Of course, there was a little sand in the air. In fact, probably the 'yellow dust' would have been bad for our body. However, it seems that it was not need to say that it should be careful such a big deal like now.    Of course, there would have been 'fine dust' in those days. But it was not long ago that it suddenly became an issue in Korea. It seems to me that in recent 3 years, suddenly 'fine dust' has become a big issue. Especially, it seems that I got worse after I came to Seoul. The region where I lived was located in the southeast, but since Seoul is in the northwest, geographically it is close to China. Actually, the air condition suddenly got wor

Rose presidential election in Korea

Image
As I was talking about Seoul, I felt that I could not talk ‘without president election’. This is because this president election has great significance in Korea. Korea has a presidential election next week. If you do not have time to vote next week, you can vote in advance(Pre-voting). Pre-voting will starts tomorrow!  After the impeachment of the former president, he is supposed to hold a presidential election for a new president within 60 days. So, we usually vote in December, but this time we will vote in May. So it was nicknamed the 'Rose presidential election', which means the presidential election in May when the rose blooms.  This vote is very meaningful. This is because the former president is an impeachment that is impeached and neglected due to the obligation to protect the Constitution. There was a lot of work before the former president was impeached. The people of the Republic of Korea resented the President's behavior and gathered candle light at Gwa

Myeongdong : Sightseeing places in Seoul

Seoul has many attractions. Typically, there are Gyeongbokgung, Myeongdong, and Namsan towers. This time, I want to deal with the sights of Seoul. Historical places like Gyeongbokgung are classified separately, and here I try to focus on good places to visit.   1. Myeong-dong  Myeong-dong is located in Jung-gu, Seoul. If you want to know the most famous places in Seoul, Myeong-dong is a typical sightseeing place. Myeong-dong is now Korea's cultural and financial center, has a variety of attractions, and has many banks. There are many things to eat, too. If you plan to visit Myeong-dong, I recommend you to prepare cash. Because it sells a variety of foods on the streets.  Myeong-dong was also designated as a special tourist destination for foreign tourists. So, if you stand on Myeong-dong Street, you might get confused. Chinese and Japanese are spontaneously written on the doorsteps of shops located on the streets, and those who promote are promoted in Chinese a

The Midterm exam was over!

I don't have been writing for a long time. I guess I did not write about a week. In fact, there was a reason. This is because this was the midterm exam period for Korean college students!  In general, a Korean university lasts 16 weeks. So at the 8th and 16th weeks, I'm going to take the midterm and the final exam. This week was the 8th. Do you think did I take the exam well? I do not want to answer that. ;)    Today I want to talk briefly about the criteria that a university scores. Korean university students went to high school and come to university. But they can't stop studying too at university. I had to study at high school as if everything was going to be over when pass at university. However, as in university, you don't have to study the way of memorizing unconditionally like in high school. Instead, study at universities requires a lot of thought, and grades are assessed through various assignments.    During high school, I used to take exam

Seoul story #5. Variety ways to solving a meal

Last time I wrote about how students attend to university and where university students live. So today I try to write about how students eat meal. There are more ways to eat meal than this post, but here I try to cover some of the most representative ones.   1. HakSik : Restaurants in University  As many people know, there are restaurants in the university for the convenience of students. Many students use it because they can eat meal at a reasonable price. Unlike high school, you can choose your own menu and you can eat as much as you like. In the Korean internet community, 'Which foods are better at which university?' Is often a topic of discussion.  Unluckily, the food at my university is not tasty. It does not taste like that either. At a reasonable price, it has the right nutrients. So I use it often, but my friends often do not.   2. Restaurants outside the university  Students who do not like the taste of meal of universities tend to go out of the

Seoul story #4. Obtaining a house at Seoul

Some of the students who attend university are difficult to attend school. It is a student who is too far from home to take the time to school, or the cost of school trip is too expensive to attend school. Such students will have a residence near the school. Let's find out how students prepare their place in Korea.   1. GiSookSa : Dormitory  This is the most representative method. There are dormitories provided by the university, and there are dormitories provided by the province to students who come to Seoul from the province. When you live in a dormitory, you can meet a variety of students as a roommate. Staying with your roommates is not lonely and you can depend on each other. It is also cheaper to live in a dormitory. Although it costs meals, it is advantageous for the dormitory to be cheaper than the cost of attends.  I stayed in a university dormitory and used the same room as three students. One of them is a friend, and the other is a friend I met in a dor

Seoul story #3-1. How to get a driver's license in Korea

Cars are a really convenient transportation. However, in order to drive a car, you must have a license. So this time I will post 'How can get a driver's license in Korea'. There is a way to go to a private institute, but in this article, I want to let you know about the process of acquisition at the driving license examination center.  First, you must be 18 years old to get a driver's license in Korea. A motorcycle license can be acquired if you are 16 years old or older, but you can only drive a motorcycle. In this posting I will only deal with the car driver's license.  There are two main types of car license. It is 'One species normal' or 'Two species normal'. There are differences in the types of cars that can drive. For reference, today 'Two species normal' means 'two species - Auto' in general. In the case of Korea, because of the high penetration rate of automatic transmission, it is possible to drive many vehicles ev

Seoul story #3. Public transportation of Seoul

There are many ways to go to school. Of course, if the distance between your home and your school is too far away, you have to consider other ways, but I'll cover that in the next story. This time I try to write about the students who come and go to school. Students take the bus, ride the subway, and take a taxi. Some students go to school by car. Most students, however, tend to use public transportation.   1. Subway  It is the most typical commute. The subway has the advantage of running fast, and the subway fare is very cheap. For about 1,300won(1.2dollar), the distance can be comfortable. Also, the transfer system between subway lines is so good that you can see every corner of Seoul. It is well connected with satellite cities around Seoul as well as Seoul. However, the number of users is very large. The subway in commute time is very crowded. It can not catch the handle, it is moved by crowd. Therefore, it is the strategy of the students who commute to school to
